Local Build
Add a Gemfile e.g.:
source 'https://rubygems.org'
gem 'github-pages', :group => :jekyll_plugins
or with "plain" Jekyll:
source 'https://rubygems.org'
gem 'jekyll'
gem 'jekyll-avatar', :group => :jekyll_plugins
Install (one time) and run:
$ bundle install
$ bundle exec jekyll build

The themes directory is dedicated to the public domain. Use it as you please with no restrictions whatsoever.
